Huskies Close Weekend at ITA Regionals

MIDLAND, Mich. – The Michigan Tech women's tennis team finished up at the ITA Regional Championships which were hosted this year by Northwood University. The three-day event wrapped up on Sunday afternoon.

Michigan Tech freshman Ivona Gorgioski had a strong showing in her first ever ITA Regional event, moving forward to the round of 16 with two singles wins on Friday. Gorgioski fell in the round of 16 Saturday to L. Karl of Drury who went on to play in the singles title match. Karl ended up as the second place finisher in the main bracket.

Sophomore Paola Quintana played well in the singles consolation and advanced all the way to the final four. She defeated McLean of the University of Findlay 8-2 and Hays of the University of St. Louis 8-6 on Saturday to get to the semifinals, but was unable to advance further.

The Huskies will return to match play at home this weekend when they host Saginaw Valley State Saturday at 10 a.m. and Northwood on Sunday at 10 a.m. in a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contests.
