INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Michigan Tech women's basketball team stayed at No. 4 for the third straight week in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Poll, announced Wednesday by the national office. The Huskies continue to be one of four Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams ranked in this poll and are 20th nationally in the latest WBCA Coaches' Top 25 Poll that was released on Tuesday.
The Huskies split the final two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games of the 2017-18 regular season last week in the SDC Gym. Tech fell to Wayne State University 71-69 on Thursday before bouncing back on Saturday with 60-44 victory over Davenport University on Senior Day. The Huskies go into the week as the No. 2 seed in the GLIAC Tournament by claiming the North Division Championship and will host No.7 seed Ferris State in quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The breakdown for GLIAC Teams in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region Rankings this week include Ashland at No. 1 followed by Tech at No. 4 while Grand Valley State held at No. 5. Wayne State remained in the poll this week in the No. 9 spot. The Midwest Region includes schools from the GLIAC, the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). The Top 8 in each region will qualify for the postseason championships.
The Huskies, who finished the regular season 23-4 overall and 17-3 in the GLIAC, will face Ferris State Wednesday night starting at 5:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to the GLIAC Final Four on Saturday. The highest remaining seed following the quarterfinal round will host the semifinals and championship game.
